Temple Way and its junction with Temple Back East

January to March 2026

Description of work and disruption

We are installing temporary traffic lights at Temple Way’s junction with Temple Back East overnight on Tuesday 6 January so that we can install new permanent traffic signals.

Temple Way will remain open overnight, but will be reduced to one lane in each direction.

Access to Temple Back East will be maintained from the north but it will not be possible to turn right from Temple Way into Temple Back East overnight. Any vehicles that need to access Temple Back East from the south will need to turn around at Old Market Roundabout so they can access it from the north.

Bus lane closure from January:

We have closed a section of bus lane between Friary and Temple East Back on the east side of Temple Way, to allow a new pavement and cycle path to be built.

There is an alternative route for pedestrians.

The T9 bus stop is now closed, with the nearest bus stop at Temple Meads.

Access for pedestrians and cyclists

Please follow any alternative routes as directed.

Access for motor vehicles

Overnight on Tuesday 6 January 2026:

Access to Temple Back East will be maintained from the north but it will not be possible to turn right from Temple Way into Temple Back East.

Any vehicles that need to access Temple Back East from the south will need to turn around at Old Market Roundabout so they can get onto it from the north.

Access for buses

We have closed the bus lane from Friary to Temple East Back on the east side of Temple Way.

The T9 bus stop is now closed, with the nearest bus stop at Temple Meads.
