Sylvan Way’s junction with the Portway
April to autumn 2026
Description of work and disruption
We are starting work on and around Sylvan Way’s junction with the Portway from the evening of Sunday 19 April.
The first stage involves removing the pedestrian island.
There will be traffic management in place throughout the works, including temporary traffic lights to allow traffic to move safely through the junction in both directions.
For this first stage of the works, you will not be able to drive onto Sylvan Way from the Portway if travelling northbound. There will be a diversion in place.
This access arrangement will change as the work progresses. You will need to follow signage and any diversions.
Work in this area also includes:
- Improving the pavement, kerb, drainage and bus stops
- replacing the traffic signals and street lighting
- road resurfacing and painting the road markings
Thank you for your patience while we work to improve the Portway for everyone.
Access for pedestrians and cyclists
Access will remain in place but please follow any signage on site.
Access for motor vehicles
Access from Sylvan Way onto the Portway will remain in place throughout the works.
