Lower part of Whiteladies Road to fully close for flood prevention works

We need to close the lower part of Whiteladies Road in both directions for a week in February. Motor vehicles will need to follow the signposted diversion. Delays are to be expected.

Description of work and disruption

As part of our ongoing project to prevent water pooling and to make the area more accessible for pedestrians and safer for cyclists, we need to fully close Whiteladies Road between the Tyndall’s Park Road/St Paul’s Road junction and the junction with Queens Road from 11 to 18 February.

This will allow work to take place to install a drainage pipe across the road and a catchpit, which is an underground chamber that collects leaves, silt and debris to help keep the new drainage system clear.

The full closure means traffic will be diverted throughout this time and delays are to be expected, so avoid driving through the area if you can.

When these drainage works are complete, we will reopen the road southbound, but the northbound closure and diversion will remain in place.

Some of the final works in the project will be to resurface the road, which will mean overnight road closures in the spring. More details to follow.

Access for pedestrians and cyclists

Access for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained on the pavement (west side).

Access for motor vehicles

The lower section of Whiteladies Road will be closed in both directions from 11 to 18 February.

  • If driving southbound, the diversion is via St Paul’s Road and Queens Road.
  • If driving northbound, the diversion is via Queens Road and St Paul’s Road.

Access to drive to and from properties along the closure will be maintained at all times but there may be times when it is restricted or temporarily delayed.

For properties north of building 15, including 15, access will be from the St Paul’s junction end of the closure.

For properties south of building 15, access will vary as the works progress.

To find out more about access arrangements, email admin@etm-group.co.uk or phone 0117 953 3654.

Access for buses

Buses will be diverted while the lower part of Whiteladies Road is closed.

For all services – including the 1, 2, 2a, 3, 4, 71, T7, U1, U1N, and Y6 – travelling southbound, the diversion will be via Tyndall’s Park Road, Elmdale Road and Queens Avenue.

The northbound diversion will remain the same, via Queens Road and St Paul’s Road.
