Broadmead
April to October 2026
Description of work and disruption
We are starting work to create 47 new disabled parking spaces in five locations across Broadmead, to replace the ones we are set to close on Union Street, The Horsefair, Penn Street and in Callowhill Court.
The new parking spaces are being created well in advance of closing any, to give time for people to start using the new ones.
The programme of work:
- Creating 23 spaces at Brunswick Square – April to August 2026
- Creating 14 spaces at Castle Street and Queen Street – April to June 2026
- Creating 5 spaces at Bridewell Street* – July to September 2026
- Creating 4 spaces at Silver Street – September to November 2026
Please be aware that these times could change depending on external factors.

We will also be improving pavements and crossing points in some of these areas to make it easier to get to and from the disabled parking spaces. In Brunswick Square we will also be planting two trees, adding three benches and bike stands, and improving the lighting.
Once the disabled parking spaces have been built, the spaces will no longer be available for pay & display customers or permit holders.
Our thanks to WECIL who helped us to design these spaces.
*Initially we will be creating five spaces, but one extra space will be added on Bridewell Street at a later date, bringing the total up to six.
Access for pedestrians and cyclists
Access will remain in place but please follow any on-street signs and instructions.
Access for motor vehicles
There will be some side road closures as part of the Brunswick Square works and changes to existing parking.
There will also be some temporary road closures as part of the later works. We’ll issue further updates nearer the time.
Access for buses
The Brunswick Square works does not impact any bus routes.
We’ll put out further updates as the works progress.
